The exceptional photographers Lillian Bassman and Paul Himmel not only shared a great passion for the arts, they also have been together for more than 77 years. Bassman’s fashion photography unites experimental aesthetics with atmospherically charged scenes and has retained its modernity until today. Her husband, Paul Himmel, also started his career as a fashion photographer, working for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and many other magazines. Through experimentation with various photographic techniques his work evolved increasingly into creative art and he eventually stopped working for commercial clients. Now the Kunst Haus in Vienna presents a comprehensive retrospective about the two artist’s family lives and influential works. The retrospective is running until March 8, 2015.
